This project transformed a traditional suburban landscape into a modern retreat that expresses the homeowners' contemporary style. Inspired by a striking three-season room addition, the homeowners envisioned an outdoor space that seamlessly flows with their new home addition. Key challenges included managing impervious surface limits and stormwater. To tackle this, a strategically integrated rain garden was designed, enhancing drainage while enriching the landscape's natural feel. Design elements such as a terraced front walkway and boxwood-lined seating create purposeful, inviting spaces. In the backyard, a stepper pathway and linear banding unify distinct areas, fostering a smooth transition between fireside gatherings and dining. Thoughtful planning minimized paver cuts, preserving the modern aesthetics’ clean lines. The resulting design artfully blends lush plantings with functional hardscapes, meeting the homeowners' needs while adding lasting beauty and harmony to their outdoor environment.
