Bloom Editor-in-Chief

Landscape Illinois is seeking an industry representative to serve as Editor-in-Chief of Bloom, our comprehensive video library with over 300 videos and 10,000+ minutes of instruction. Bloom delivers education and training to professionals at every level of the landscape industry.

Role Overview

The Editor-in-Chief will serve as Bloom’s ambassador, shaping its direction and ensuring content remains relevant, high-quality, and connected to Landscape Illinois’ live and print resources. This is not a technical role, but a passion for lifelong learning, and the value of video education is essential.

The Editor-in-Chief will work closely with the Education Manager and Executive Director, while staff will handle administrative tasks.

Length of Service: It is preferred that the Bloom Editor-in-Chief serves for 24 months. After that, the position will be reevaluated.

Key Responsibilities

Internal

  • Review and organize Bloom’s existing content; refine tagging and categorization
  • Collaborate with the Education Manager to highlight content in member communications
  • Identify gaps and recommend new or missing content
  • Suggest concepts for original content and updates to capture strategy
  • Audit digital assets, ensuring accessibility and relevance
  • Assist staff with organizing non-video digital materials

External

  • Represent Bloom at Landscape Illinois events, aligning digital and in-person education
  • Explore non-industry events to identify emerging needs
  • Connect with other training providers for potential content partnerships
  • Engage with Landscape Illinois committees on recording and distribution strategies

Expected time commitment:

10 hours per month.

Week in the Life:

The Editor-in-Chief will review the current content on Bloom and determine how it should be positioned, packaged, and tagged. The EIC will work with staff to highlight videos for the monthly email blasts that match what professionals are thinking about during the season. The EIC will attend Landscape Illinois educational programs and identify which content is strongest to promote on Bloom. The EIC will watch new and old content to determine if any content should be removed or retired. The EIC will oversee the production of original content like “Grow and Tell” which are short 5-minute interviews with Landscape Illinois members. The EIC will speak to other providers of educational content in Illinois to see if a sharing agreement can be put into place to host content on Bloom. The EIC will work with staff to grow the platform through better marketing and visibility.
