Wading into Stormwater Workshop – Grayslake
This workshop is hosted by the Landscape Illinois Sustainable and Ecological Landscaping Committee.
Wading into Stormwater
Trevor Smith wades deeper into stormwater management and nature-based solutions.
Building on the 3-hour workshop from iLandscape 2026, this one-day intensive will teach participants how to read a site, beginning with soils. You will learn what to look for when you walk a property, assess the source of the problem and determine the best solution. From rain gardens and bioretention to dry wells and permeable hard surfaces, attendees will leave with a working understanding of which solution is best for their client and how to implement it.
After a morning in the classroom, Trevor will lead a site visit and analysis of an existing Green Infrastructure project. Finally, students will have an opportunity to apply what they have learned. Feel free to bring your own real-world projects to workshop with the group. Together you will come up with the best solutions to these problems.
This course is a condensed version of the 35-hour Green Infrastructure training formerly taught by Trevor. It is designed to leave attendees with more answers than questions, a tool kit and a feeling of confidence to assess and provide solutions for their clients’ stormwater issues on 2026.
This class is offered for landscape contractors, ecological landscapers, landscape architects, engineers, designers, project managers, owners and leads interested in adding stormwater management to their toolbox. You need not have taken the workshop at iLandscape to attend this class.
Speaker: Trevor Smith, MCH, AOLCP, LEED G. Trevor has nearly two decades of practical experience working with and installing stormwater management systems.
