Levy Senior Center & Rothschild Gardens

By Nature's Perspective Landscaping

In 2019, the Levy Senior Center acquired funding to enhance their grounds and develop their courtyard garden. We started with rejuvenative pruning, reductions, and bed editing. We then partnered with volunteers and the Evanston Garden Club to redesign the courtyard with new plantings that better fit the space. The garden is surrounded on all sides with large windows. For years, seniors would walk these atriums for exercise looking out at the gardens, but rarely interacting with the space. Our goal was to make the gardens a destination, not just something to look at. Having the courtyard maintained, mulched, and planted with seasonal color rotations has drastically improved the use of the gardens. Now, year round programing takes place such as yoga classes, live music, and specialty events. Future programing hopes to connect seniors with the landscape through gardening, pruning, and plant ID workshops.
