The client sought to reclaim a small, overgrown backyard as the final touch to their home’s transformation. They envisioned a minimalist, mid-century modern look, using foliage for color and texture rather than flowers. The narrow, 11-foot-deep space posed challenges, including a 2-foot grade difference from the back door to the rear elevation. To address this, we designed a streamlined patio with a retaining wall, maximizing usable space and managing the grade. Large square pavers with a bold grid pattern broke up the patio’s length, while a fountain and planting pockets added charm. The result is a seamless indoor-outdoor space that the client loves, with lush plantings they’ll enjoy for years.
