Pollinator Paradise
By Chalet
The client is a nature enthusiast and wanted to convert her existing landscape into a haven for pollinators and birds. The first step was to remove the entire lawn and foundation plantings and amend the clay soil with fresh topsoil and compost. The landscape design focused on creating a garden with primarily native plants, walking paths, a drainage runnel, and a new deck where the client can sit and enjoy the view. Birch trees and red cedars were planted along the back of the property to create privacy. A ginkgo tree anchors the center of the space and a blend of prairie grasses and perennials such as amsonia, iris, yarrow, and milkweed add color and structure. A fallen oak tree was repurposed and the trunk cut into 2” thick discs to create a stepper path. The stump of another tree was carved into a sting ray that the grandchildren adore.
